Latest news Oculus highlights little-known Late Infantile Battens disease through charity website. Channel 5 News and BBC Online has recently raised the awareness of a rare, tragic disease called Late Infantile Battens. The disease, caused by an enzyme deficiency, leads to loss of muscle co-ordination, blindness and mental deterioration and is ultimately fatal by the age of 12. Oculus has developed the website for the Jordan Jay Trust (named after the son of one of Oculus’s clients who has the disease). Since the Trust was set up, Jordan’s younger sister, Jasmine, has been diagnosed with the disease and it was her story that was recently highlighted in the media. She recently underwent pioneering surgery in the US, along with other sufferers of the disease. Through the website, it is hoped to raise money for further research into Late Infantile Battens disease. For more information, visit: www.jordanjaytrust.com |
